About Us

Hi, we’re Mark and Jo. We live in North Wales but spend much of our time (well, in the absence of a pandemic…) “dossing” around in our motorhome, SOK.

Here’s the Short Version of our Motorhoming Story:

We headed off on our first road trip together in April 2012; ten days or so in Scotland by car, staying in B&Bs. The weather was surprisingly kind, which was lucky. Parking up in a layby to eat your butties is fine when the sun is shining but, we realised, might not have been so good in more normal Scottish weather:

Blimey, Mark still had hair on the top of his head back then!

So, later in 2012, we upgraded our travelling arrangements and bought Kampington, our first van. Now we were ready for all weathers and wouldn’t feel obliged to eat a full fry-up every morning just because we’d paid for it.

We found Kampington on Ebay: a 2003 Mercedes Sprinter that had been recently converted. Perfect!

This is Kampington just off the M20 on our first motorhoming trip to Europe. We were a bit early to check in for the ferry at Dover so had stopped for a cuppa. Mark was so excited about the whole endeavour that he just couldn’t resist getting his chair out in the car park:

Kampington had many happy trips around Europe, followed by a trip that had to be abruptly cut short. The original plan had us setting off in May 2017 and driving up through Norway all the way to Nordkapp. From there we planned to head south through Sweden and Eastern Europe to Greece for the winter before returning home via the ferry to Italy. We got as far as Poland in September before having to rush home due to a family emergency. Not good at all.

Back at base and clearly going nowhere for a while, we decided that this might be the time to replace Kampington. As sorry as we would be to part with him, he was getting a bit long in the tooth by this point, and we’d always known we’d have to invest in a newer van at some point. For years, Mark had been saying things like “When we get Son of Kampington, he’ll have to have…” so our new van automatically became known as SOK (“Son of Kampington” being a bit of a mouthful for daily use).

SOK is a Benimar 481 which is a 6 metre long coachbuilt motorhome on a Ford Transit base:

We’ll throw in some interior photos of SOK as we go along…

Finally, I’d better mention the rest of the team. The Three Pesketeers (Zippy, Penguin and Hamster) are old hands at motorhoming. Here they are in Kampington back in 2012, engaged in a bit of route planning:

We adopted Sweep (yes, the little guy with the red nose who used to hang around with Sooty) in 2017. As if the Three Pesketeers weren’t enough trouble….. Rescued from a sorry existence on top of a policeman’s wardrobe, Sweep came with us for a “holiday” and we never gave him back. So now it’s the “Three Pesketeers and Sweep”.

The little critters do have a habit of sneaking into photos every now and then. This is Mark and Sweep in Ireland in 2018:

So, those are the basics of the situation….. Two Dossers, Three Pesketeers and Sweep in SOK. There will be some great places to visit along the way, mixed in with the ongoing comedy of our day-to-day life on the road.

Right, let’s get on with it….
