Inca Trail, Day 1

We set off on Sunday morning, a group of 9 of us with 2 guides and around 18 porters carrying most of the gear.

The path followed the Urubamba river downstream, soon passing our first Inca ruins.

After a few kilometres we turned left into a smaller valley and followed the Cusichaka river up to our first camp site at Hatunchaca (8900 ft), which was actually slightly lower than our starting point, which was at 9350 ft above sea level. The path was good all the way and only gently undulating.
