For June’s official long weekend away (all the others are just extras!) we traveled down to Pisgah near Devil’s Bridge in mid Wales. We first visited the Halfway Inn in early 2013, having found it on a list of pubs that allow free motorhome stopovers (free is always good news!). When Mark discovered that they have a static caravan there that they rent out, he decided it would make a good base for a motorbike weekend. We went back later in 2013 with three of Mark’s bikey pals, and again this weekend for our third / their second visit.
I had a nice leisurely drive down on Friday via Colwyn Bay to see my mum, arriving about half an hour before the roar of 4 motorbikes destroyed the idyllic calm….
The pub was pretty much unchanged from our previous visits. Owners Isobel and David, dogs Kel and Alice, and the two donkeys were all well. The food was still good, and the consensus view was that the beer was still terrible (I don’t know about the wine; after last year I decided not to bother until we retreated back to the caravan after tea). Luckily, we had come prepared this time and brought sufficient supplies for our three evenings away. Kampington arrived on Friday carrying more supplies than a Bargain Booze delivery van….
On Saturday we went down to St Davids – quite a long way but a nice day out all the same.
The weather was glorious all weekend. Here’s Mark doing a very messy job of eating ice cream in St Davids. Biting the bottom off the cone turned out to be a big big mistake…..
Then on Sunday we had an easier day – a spin round the Elan Valley then down into Aberystwyth.
I got home late afternoon after a leisurely drive home in the van. Not for long though – I’ll be heading off again on Friday morning…
